Louse of Pain: 3 Parasites to Stay Away From This Summer

Oh Summer! Swimming in bright blue waters, picking assorted flowers in beautiful fields, playing with your feline or canine companion.....wait is that a fucking flea? EW. While you're living out the dog days of Summer, keep on the look out for these three annoying reasons to hate a season so full of love.

1.Onchocerca volvulus

Onchocerciasis is known as the second highest cause of blindness in the world. This painful disease is caused by a nematode called the Onchocerca volvulus. This parasite is found in Mexico, South America, and Africa. The nematodes are passed person to person by a black fly that has bitten someone with onchocerciasis. They then enter the blood stream and begin to spread. Symptoms of Onchocerciasis include skin rash, bumps under the skin, and eye lesions that may cause the victim to go blind.

2.Human Bot Fly

Yeah, you've seen the pictures. It's no joke, the human botfly is one hell of a horror show. The Bot operates by capturing a mosquito and laying its eggs on it. The mosquito is then let loose on the unsuspecting world free to pass on the lavra. The lavra eats through skin and muscle tissue. They even leave a tiny hole to breathe out of. This turns into a boil which is full of maggots. To top it all off, victims of the fly have reported feeling the maggots under their skin!

3. Chiggers
Chiggers. The name alone inspires fear in the hearts of millions. Children cry at the very sight of them. Women and men alike vomit blood in their tiny shadow. If you have ever been bitten by a chigger you know the feeling. The constant itching, the annoying welts, the strange fluid that seeps out when you pop them, chiggers should be public enemy number one! Members of the mite family, chiggers attach themselves to the victim's skin and feed. They then pump in a skin disolving liquid and drink the liquidated skin shake afterwards ( Just like mom used to do!). To get rid of them just wash with hot soap and water. The welts may last for days or even weeks. By the way, Chiggers do NOT burrow under the skin. They may be Satan's creatures but they aren't that bad!
